I fell in love with the Dijon Mustard on my first visit to Paris. The spicy pungent bite lured me in every time. Crispy french bread, cheese that will make your mouth water, very fine house wine and other delights to your senses. Can you hear me sigh?

Mimi at night in Paris reading a love letter

France on the brain and French mustard in my mouth

My senses could use a French delight or two. Since France is not an option, a dose of Dijon smeared on Creole Sausage Crescent City Savory Appetizer will have to do. France has been on my brain recently since I finished reading my favorite expat’s new book. I read David Lebovitz’s new book L’appart over a few days. L’appart delivers an entertaining ride through David’s “Delights and Disasters” of making Paris his home.

Unbaked crescent wrapped sausage

With a book that starts with “Pee in this cup,” David offers humor along with the highs and lows of making his home in Paris. I admire David for having the gumption to pick up, move a world away and start anew in a foreign country. Starting all over is exciting and nerve-racking all at the same time.

As a person still struggling to parlez vous in French, kudos to David. My ear hears the French language but my brain truly moves into slow motion when engaged with the rare opportunity to speak in French. My French Canadian friends have said that I have a sexy accent when I attempt to speak French-Southern . As much as that makes me smile, I believe that they just want to make sure that I feed them again.

Appetizer ready to be baked for your guests to drool over

David’s newest book will transport you to Paris. L’appart provides an inside look at acquiring a home in Paris. A must read if this is on your list. France has an interesting take on the home acquisition process. David learns what it truly means when you hear ‘pas de probleme’ from your contractor too many times. David is a gifted writer and weaves in the Paris that I love in between the renovations.

L’appart offers lagniappe along with the coaster ride in Paris

A great story on its own but David provides a bit of lagniappe with recipes in between the story lines. I am looking forward to trying David’s recipe for Thai Curry with Lamb and Haricots Verts since Grill Man and I love Thai food. Chocolate Souffle will be another recipe that I add to my next soiree.

If you’re not familiar with David check out his web site at www.Davidlebovitz.com. Upon arrival you will discover mouth-watering photos which provides any traveler a longing for a visit to city of lights. David’s site is a great resource of information on Paris sights and sounds. Who better to suggest amazing food?

New Orleans is the closest city that I know that weaves French throughout the fabric of the city. While your pouring your next glass of Viognier shout out to Alexa for Lucinda William’s song “Crescent City” and make Creole Sausage Crescent City Savory Appetizer.

Rustic Peach Tart recipe is the simplest of desserts. All of the ingredients that are stocked in our pantry with the one addition of fresh peaches. Serve peaches freshly picked firm and juicy. Be aware that the peach juice is ready and willing to drip down as you reach in for a bite.

Of course, I love peaches in almost any way that you may serve. Somehow, the full flavor of Summer soaks into the peach and drizzles out when bitten into or sliced. Peaches also make the best tasting jelly or jam. Fresh peaches have an amazing flavor that does not come through when eating canned peaches.

Peeling fresh peaches

Rustic peach tart recipe is a delicious dish to make ahead and serve later. A dollop of fresh homemade whipped cream served on succulent juicy peaches sitting on a bed of crunch and crust. Serve this recipe to grab a bite of summer while you may.

Use homemade crust or store bought for the Rustic Peach Tart?

I elected to use a homemade crust with this dish. The rustic tart screamed out for the addition of homemade crust. There certainly is an old-fashioned element to making your own. The stand-mixer makes easy work of preparing the dough. I love my granite on the counter and it makes an easy work surface to roll out dough.

Are homemade crusts worth the extra effort?

Grill Man’s Aunt Theria provided the Standard Pie Crust from her little Recipe Box Treasures notebook. I adapted the recipe to include the stand mixer and my method for preparing the dough. The stand mixer makes for easy work of a pie crust.

Although, I may use the store-bought version when shortage of time calls for it. Please use which ever version allows you to make this Rustic Peach Tart recipe either homemade or store-bought. I recommend making the tart, allowing to cool, refrigerate least 4-6 hours and serving as desired. This dish tastes good hot out of the oven but it is sumptuous served cold.

Alexa, shout out to all the songs for Georgia Peaches, Lauren Alaina’s and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s.

I found the recipe when I purchased an old wooden box from an estate sale in New Orleans. The estate sale was in the Garden District in a fabulous three-story home. In the kitchen, I discovered my treasure. The recipe box contained a ton of recipes for anyone that loves good food or cooking. The full story may be found under post titled Southern Comfort and oh that Chocolate Pie.

In the wooden box, I found a handwritten unnamed dessert recipe that looked interesting. It was loosely scribbled on notebook paper with three ingredients. The faded paper from an old ledger book barely contained the following instructions:

Preheat over to 400 degrees and turn off. Mix, drop on sheets and leave in oven overnight or about three hours.

The first time I attempted this recipe, I prayed that I was not wasting my fresh pecans on a recipe that was missing an important item or vital instruction. Over the course of time, I have made this recipe several times and always been pleased with the results.

The Brown Sugar Bites Dessert will come in handy when you need a sweet item but don’t have time for cooking or prep work. The ingredients should be on hand in any well stocked kitchen. Two trays could be ready at one time and popped in the oven to sit for the required three hours. Perhaps, you may choose to place in oven for overnight until your ready to deal with them in the morning.

In conclusion, Brown Sugar Bites Dessert will make a welcome addition to any gift basket, bridal or baby shower or luncheon.

Shout out to Alexa for Rolling Stones, Brown Sugar please. (That was too easy)
