Grill Man is my favorite taste tester, although I don’t always like to hear his comments. If he doesn’t like something that I have cooked,  I know he will convey his  honest opinion. Then, the hard part is that I have to decide what to do with this information and how to interpret.  Many times I may cook a dish until we love it.

Love to hear that something is delicious and he agrees that I should include a recipe on  my site. Quiche- Albacore Tuna Spiced Up? Wow! recipe is a “one and done recipe”. One and done recipes are my absolute favorite but a bit rarer than I would like.

Keep a well stocked pantry

Always pick the best quality ingredients possible for you and your family. My preference is wild caught albacore tuna. Cooking this dish with fresh tuna would be the best option if  you have it available and it is a great last-minute, “I don’t know what to cook for dinner recipe.” Quiche- Albacore Tuna Spiced Up? Wow! recipe will come to the rescue when your at a loss.

Truly, Grill Man needs to get back on the water and soon to fill up my freezer. For adventure on the water charter a boat with friends or family. Boat captains typically make sure a fish haul if possible.

Deep Sea fishing is a great way to spend the day. Fishing on the Gulf Coast is fabulous with extremely varied species in Gulf waters. Wild Caught tuna is available for you to reel in if your willing to go out far enough. You must be  willing to fight for your catch.

Porch time is a fan favorite at our house and almost mandatory for guests. The porch allows for slow and easy conversation while enjoying the birds and squirrel chatter. Perhaps, a lovely place to while away the morning with a cup of coffee. Add in a pitter-patter of rain on the tin roof and it is music to my ears.

Last weekend was Round 2 of my March company.  My Uncle and two of my cousins from Louisiana were visiting with their families, Funny Girl and Lil Rouge. A quick and easy breakfast was certainly on my list. Cooking Spicy Sausage Cheese Egg Pie in the kitchen with them was a joy. Having extra hands in my kitchen is not common but I love and cherish it when I do.

Lil Rouge and Funny Girl made quick work of the Spicy Sausage Cheese Egg Pie recipe that I created for making  two Egg Pies. If you only need one, you may freeze the second pie after you bake. Pie in the freezer is great to have on hand for breakfast, lunch or deliver to a friend in need.

Over the course of our weekend, we had a grand time telling tales of our childhood days and teenage mishaps. Reminiscing about our loved ones that had moved on was bittersweet yet softened by the retelling of our family stories.  Sharing delight in the telling of our tales is a common thread in our group.

No weekend around my family can occur without the occasional game or cards whether it is Shanghai, Canasta or Poop-head. For the record, I was not the Poop-head!

Card playing allows for plenty of conversations, tale-telling and cocktails, of course. My brother was able to join us for lunch, tale-telling and such. Funny Girl whipped up a  delicious white coconut cocktail that I loved. She also whipped up something she called Kidney infection. Oddly, Funny Girl and I didn’t drink that one but Lil Rouge managed it somehow.

Between hands of cards, we discussed our ancestors and looked at old photos.  Sargent Granny would have smiled had she been sitting with us. Sharing time together is sometimes hard to organize with family and friends but so worth the effort. Living in different cities and states adds to difficulty of organizing  schedules, just do it. Your Granny will smile, I know mine is.

Waste Not Want Not Series:
Leftover Potato and Sausage from Seafood Boil

My Grandmother Theda Faye taught the Thrifty Class 101 long before it was cool.  Granny drug me to garage sales and estate sales at an early age. As a teenager, I didn’t understand why anyone would want to buy a “used or old item”.  To my young mind, new seemed the ideal way to go.

My Granny was quick to display her newest bargain to anyone that would listen. After she demonstrated all it’s features to you, she would want you to guess what she had paid for her treasure. This was an ideal game to lose. She loved a bargain like no one else I know.

My Granny always arrived bearing small gifts that she had picked up here and there.  She loved buying bargains to share with her family and friends.  When salad spinners were mass marketed, she gave one to everyone in our family. Clearly, how did we make salad before the spinner?

I too have the bargain bug. I adore shopping for old books,  antiques, depression glass, vintage cooking ware, art and more. I believe that vintage and antiques contain more soul than the items offered at most stores.  I will take an antique bookshelf over any new bookshelf that you may buy today. The craftsmanship in antiques is solid and something to admire.

I miss my Granny and think of her always. I especially think of her when bargain shopping or using leftovers to cook a completely different meal. I am sure that I heard her say “waste-not-want-not” a billion times. It sunk in, Granny!

My parents arrived this week  from Mississippi for a brief visit. I try to serve seafood or craw-fish when they visit,  since they don’t have easy access to either. We always have leftover potatoes and sausage from a seafood boil. I created this breakfast casserole using the potatoes, sausage and my delicious farm fresh eggs.

Shout out to Alexa for Billie Holiday. It’s a jazzy and breezy kind of day. Perfect morning to start the day off with a cup of coffee on the porch.
