Breakfast Hands Free? Is it possible? Well not totally, but a hands free breakfast may be closer than you think. The oven is a fabulous device once you learn how to harness the power, set timer and walk away. Walking away is my favorite part.

It allows me to move on to other tasks. A task of your choosing, you now have choices.

1. knocking out a chore of the ever-growing list

An easy breakfast recipe has been on my list to try for awhile. This is it, in the simplest of forms. The concept may be altered to include any number of spices, herbs or vegetables. I wanted a recipe that would allow for a crowd and minimal work in the kitchen.

Breakfast Hands Free recipe is designed around carving out “porch time”. Nothing is better than a cup of coffee on the porch with guests. If you have a porch, I don’t need to explain this to you. If your house is missing a porch, set up a table in your yard. It is not quite the same but it will do until you add a porch.

Any day on the porch is a good day.

For the next month, we will host an assortment of family and friends in our home. I am looking forward to the time that we will spend together. We will laugh, eat, imbibe, suck heads (crawfish, people) play cards and tell tall tales. A hands free breakfast will come in handy to maximize the “porch time”.

Leftover Potato and Sausage from Seafood Boil

My Grandmother Theda Faye taught the Thrifty Class 101 long before it was cool. Granny drug me to garage sales and estate sales at an early age. As a teenager, I didn’t understand why anyone would want to buy a “used or old item”. To my young mind, new seemed the ideal way to go.

My Granny was quick to display her newest bargain to anyone that would listen. After she demonstrated all it’s features to you, she would want you to guess what she had paid for her treasure. This was an ideal game to lose. She loved a bargain like no one else I know.

My Granny always arrived bearing small gifts that she had picked up here and there. She loved buying bargains to share with her family and friends. When salad spinners were mass marketed, she gave one to everyone in our family. Clearly, how did we make salad before the spinner?

I too have the bargain bug. I adore shopping for old books, antiques, depression glass, vintage cooking ware, art and more. I believe that vintage and antiques contain more soul than the items offered at most stores. I will take an antique bookshelf over any new bookshelf that you may buy today. The craftsmanship in antiques is solid and something to admire.

I miss my Granny and think of her always. I especially think of her when bargain shopping or using leftovers to cook a completely different meal. I am sure that I heard her say “waste-not-want-not” a billion times. It sunk in, Granny!

My parents arrived this week from Mississippi for a brief visit. I try to serve seafood or craw-fish when they visit, since they don’t have easy access to either. We always have leftover potatoes and sausage from a seafood boil. I created this breakfast casserole using the potatoes, sausage and my delicious farm fresh eggs.

Shout out to Alexa for Billie Holiday. It’s a jazzy and breezy kind of day. Perfect morning to start the day off with a cup of coffee on the porch.

Spicy Corn and Crawfish Chowder

Spicy Corn and Crawfish Chowder and November arriving has our attention focused on Fall season. Leaves are changing and finally falling. Our weather has turned cool. Well, Hades has left us here on the Gulf Coast, but it is not cool. On the Gulf Coast we are able to still wear sandals, short sleeves and paddle boarding is still an option. I won’t even think about sweaters until later in the year.

A day paddling is a day well spent

Fall events are happening everywhere. Many events are taking advantage of the nice weather outdoors. For an indoor outing, Fairhope has the Film Festival. It is about to start ramping up. Fairhope Film Festival starts November 10 and ends November 13.

From a huge collection of movies that include comedy, documentary, narrative, drama, thriller and more will be at your disposal. Tossed in you will also find Panel Discussions and a cocktail event or two. Panel discussions have been my favorite every year. I love learning about behind the scenes of writing, creating, filming, shopping locations etc.

Support the arts. Check it out at www.fairhopefilmfestival.org. Great local event that is family friendly for teenagers and adults. Check subject matter before making a movie choice decision and taking your child. Buying a ticket is a great way to support arts and Fairhope Community.

During Fall when the weather is turning cooler, soup is the answer. A quick review of the items on hand, called for a Corn and Crawfish Chowder. Soup that you will want to cook again.
